Tips For Outdoor Weddings

Outdoor weddings are a client favorite! We love them too! It’s a great way to get together with the people you love to enjoy the fresh air of the good old outdoors. But outdoor weddings come with their own list of things to consider.

We’re going to talk about the top 5 things you should consider when planning your outdoor wedding.

What’s Included

While it might be an easy assumption that your uncle’s totally cool barn and field would be a great place for your wedding and reception you must first think about what’s included in the space. Do you have to rent and set up tables and chairs? What type of work is required for the landscaping and making the space work? Is there enough parking for the guests? Where will 200 people use the bathroom? Do I have power and electrical outlets for my catering company and lighting? All of these things are factors you’ll need to consider while selecting an outdoor venue.

The Rain Plan

As much as you’ve imagined this gorgeous outdoor wedding, Mother Nature could take that all away from you in a single second. Be smart. Knowing exactly what you’re going to do and where you’re going to house your guests in the case of rain or severe weather is essential to the success of your wedding. This way the only scrambling will be to shift the plan, not completely recreate it.

Beat the Heat

Outdoor weddings are amazing because the sun is high in the sky and the surroundings are beautiful. But, it can be really hot! For you - in your suits and big dress and for your guests. Consider ways to make the heat more agreeable for your guests. Fans, Lemonade and Water Stations, Umbrellas, and even sunscreen are great things to consider when you’re hosting an outdoor wedding.

On the Feet

Navigating the outdoors in formal wear is always something we need to consider. This is especially true when it comes to what shoes to wear. Consider using your website or informing your guests of the appropriate footwear for the outdoor location. Grass means heels will sink and sand means closed toes are a no go. So keep those things in mind when inviting your guests.

Check the Time

Indoor ceremonies and receptions often happen within the time allotted by the venue itself. Many times outdoor weddings don’t have those same time restrictions (this is venue dependent of course). But, just like Cinderella your guests expire after a certain amount of time. So if you’re planning an outdoor ceremony and reception in the same location consider the comfort of guests and what you will be filling their time with. By pushing the start time closer to the evening and making sure that you stay on top of your picture time, guests will likely stay around longer and enjoy the compact timeline.
